CAROLINA STATION “FAIR SHARE” ACTION ALERT!
June 13th, 2008 by jzoltakCarolina Station will cost taxpayers an estimated $40M over 20 years if approved by the County Council as currently planned. The County has no place to go but to the taxpayers to make up this loss…AND…some of our Council members think this is a good deal.
A. The Development Agreement between the County and the developer is still being negotiated by staff, AND
B. Their plan to pay for the three new schools, new fire and police station, new sewage disposal plant, new parks and recreation areas, and maintenance of 97 acres of new roads…is US.
If you’ve ever thought or said that developers should PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE of infrastructure costs in Horry County, NEXT WEEK IS THE TIME FOR YOU TO ACT!
WHEN: Tuesday, June 17, 6 PM
WHERE: Government & Justice Center, 1301 Second Avenue, Conway, 2nd floor Council Chambers
WHAT: The County Council will vote on the 2nd (AND MOST IMPORTANT) of 3 readings to approve the Carolina Station development…despite the fact that negotiations on the Development Agreement have yet to be completed.
ACTION REQUESTED!
This is the time for taxpayers to make a strong statement. The vote is expected to be close. If hundreds of taxpayers attend the County Council meeting Tuesday evening, we can take a giant step toward changing the way development is approved in Horry County!
Horry County P.R.I.D.E. will present a statement and we encourage anyone else who wants to make a statement to do so; however, for those of you who are shy, it’s not necessary. What is necessary is your attendance!
HOA, Environmental Group, and Community Assn Officers—
1. We need all of you to attend the County Council meeting Tuesday and stand to be recognized.
2. We need you to organize your members to attend and stand to be recognized.
3. We need EVERYONE of you receiving this message to drive to Conway on the 17th and stand up and be recognized.
If the 2nd reading for Carolina Station is DEFERRED or DENIED Tuesday, it will send a very LOUD and unequivocal message to Council members and developers that taxpayers are tired of being used by the developers and we’re not going to put up with it any longer. We want to see a written plan to pay for the infrastructure needed. We want to see development permits matched with budged funds, and we want to see developers pay their fair share.
Causing a change of this magnitude requires COORDINATED ACTION BY LARGE NUMBERS OF VOTERS. If you are on our mailing list and you are not sick or out of town, please make your plans to spend the evening in Conway with us Tuesday “supporting” our Council members to do the right thing! We need everyone of you.
The Horry County P.R.I.D.E. leadership will meet you in the Council Chambers of the Government and Justice Center in Conway at 5:30 PM. If you have questions, call Pam Creech at (843) 222-2920.
See you in Conway!
